Methodology

How we verify

Everything on this site is the result of one comparison, repeated daily: what a broker says about its licences, against what the official registers say.

What we check

We read the regulatory claims a broker publishes on its own website — licence numbers, entity names, regulator names — and compare them with the official public registers of the regulators we currently cover:

  • the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), United Kingdom;
  • the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC);
  • the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA), South Africa.

Each published result links to the register entry it came from.

How often we check

Checks run daily. Every page shows the timestamp of the last successful verification. If a page has not been re-verified recently, the timestamp will say so — we do not hide staleness.

What each status means

Five labels carry the whole product, so each one has a precise meaning. These are the same definitions used by the status chips everywhere else on the site:

Verified
The licence the broker claims appears on the regulator's own register and is active.
Mismatch
The broker cites a licence we could not find on the regulator's register. Both the number and the name were checked against a working register.
Revoked or lapsed
The licence exists on the register, but the regulator has withdrawn it or it has lapsed.
Unverified
We could not confirm this either way — usually because the register was unreachable or the entity names were too ambiguous to match safely. It is not an accusation.
No claim found
We found no licence claim for this regulator on the broker's own website. This does NOT mean the broker is unregulated.

What the labels alone do not say

  • A status describes the position at the time we last checked, not a permanent state.
  • A mismatch can arise in more than one way — for example the number does not exist on the register, or the register entry belongs to a different firm name.
  • Revoked or lapsed covers a licence the register shows as cancelled, withdrawn, suspended or otherwise no longer in force.
  • Unverifiedis a statement about our check, not about the broker: the register may have been unreachable, the broker’s site may not have been readable, or the data may have been too ambiguous to match confidently.
  • No claim found means exactly that — we found no claim. It does not mean the broker is unregulated; it may hold licences it does not advertise, or advertise them somewhere we did not read.

What we do not do

Four things this site deliberately does not do:

  • No ratings and no scores.
  • No reviews, and no opinions dressed up as reviews.
  • No recommendations to use any broker.
  • No paid alterations. Commercial relationships never change a status. A status can only change because the underlying register data changed.

How these pages are produced

Pages are generated automatically from the verification data, with model assistance for the prose. Every page carries the timestamp of its data and links to the register entries its facts come from. A page is only published after it passes automated validation checks.

Limitations

Every method has an edge where it stops working. These are ours, and they are worth knowing before you rely on a result:

  • Some broker websites render their content with JavaScript in ways our reader cannot see, so a claim may exist that we did not find.
  • Registers can lag reality. A licence granted or revoked today may take time to appear in the public register we read.
  • A licence covering one country says nothing about another. A firm regulated in the United Kingdom is not thereby regulated in Nigeria, Kenya or anywhere else.

Report an error

If you believe any status or fact on this site is wrong, tell us. Corrections are checked against the registers and published the same way as everything else.
