How to Buy Shares and ETFs on Investfora

A practical guide to trading shares and ETFs through Investfora's trading account, and what to consider before you start.

What are shares and ETFs?

A share is a small piece of ownership in a company. When you buy a share, you own a tiny fraction of that business. If the company does well, its share price may rise; if it struggles, the price may fall.

An ETF is a basket of shares or other investments bundled together and traded as one thing. Instead of picking individual companies, you buy the whole basket in one go.

Both shares and ETFs are traded on stock markets. Their prices change throughout the trading day as people buy and sell. You can buy and sell them quickly—usually in seconds on the Investfora trading platform—which is different from a fixed-term deposit, where your money sits for an agreed time and you get it back at the end.

How the trading account works

Your Investfora account has a cash balance. This is the money you have transferred in by bank transfer using your unique reference. When the money arrives and has been matched—usually one to three working days—it shows as Investfora cash. Nothing is invested unless you tell it to be.

To trade shares and ETFs, you move some of that cash into a trading account. This is funded from your Investfora cash balance, just like any other investment you choose. The trading happens on a broker's platform, which you can access via Windows, Android, or a web trader that opens inside your Investfora account.

Once you have moved cash into the trading account, you can buy and sell shares and ETFs. The platform shows you live prices, and you can execute a trade in seconds. The shares or ETFs you buy sit in the trading account.

What can you trade?

Through the Investfora trading account, you can access currencies, indices, shares, ETFs and commodities. Shares include individual company stocks from markets around the world. ETFs are available across many sectors and themes. Indices let you trade baskets of shares as a single product—for example, the index of the top one hundred European companies.

The range is broad, but remember that not everything moves in the same way. Some shares are from large, established companies that change slowly; others are from smaller or newer companies that move faster. Indices tend to be less volatile than individual shares. Commodities and currencies can swing sharply. ETFs vary depending on what they hold.

Investfora does not give advice or recommend which shares or ETFs to buy. You choose what to trade based on your own research and judgment. This is important: you are responsible for your trading decisions, and you should understand what you are buying before you buy it.

Before you start: what to think about

The value of shares and ETFs can go down as well as up. You may get back less than you put in. This is the fundamental risk of stock market trading. If a company's business worsens, its share price may fall. If the wider economy weakens, many share prices may fall together.

Think about your time horizon. Are you buying to hold for years, or do you plan to trade more actively? Shares and ETFs held for longer periods smooth out short-term ups and downs. If you buy and sell frequently, you are exposed to day-to-day price movements, which can be large and unpredictable.

Understand the costs. Buying and selling incurs fees—the broker charges per trade. Some ETFs charge a small annual fee called an expense ratio. These costs come out of your returns, so they matter. Before you trade, check what the fees are and make sure they make sense for what you are doing.

Do your research. Before buying a share, look at what the company does, how it makes money, and what risks it faces. For an ETF, understand what is inside it and why. Read the key information documents provided. Do not buy something just because the price is moving or because you heard about it somewhere.

Getting started: the practical steps

First, set up your Investfora account and transfer in your initial deposit. The minimum first deposit is EUR 250. You transfer this by bank transfer using the reference shown in your dashboard. Wait one to three working days for the money to arrive and be matched. Once it shows as Investfora cash, it is ready to use.

Next, move some of that cash into the trading account. You decide how much. The money sits in the trading account as cash, ready to trade. Do not move more than you are prepared to lose, because the value of shares and ETFs can fall.

Open the trading platform—via the web trader, Windows app, or Android app. Set up your login and familiarize yourself with how it works. Look at the prices of shares and ETFs you are interested in. Most platforms let you search by name or ticker symbol.

Once you own a share or ETF, you can hold it, sell it, or buy more. Your positions are shown on the platform with their current value. Remember that this value changes as the price changes. Only sell when you decide to—no one is pushing you to trade constantly.

Risk and reality

Share and ETF trading is not a guaranteed way to make money. Prices are driven by supply and demand, and by the views of millions of traders around the world. No one can predict what a price will do. You may make money or lose money. You may lose more money than you expected.

Emotions often lead to bad trading decisions. When prices fall, fear makes people sell at the worst time. When prices rise, greed makes people chase them higher. Successful traders think clearly and stick to a plan rather than reacting to daily ups and downs. Think about your own temperament before you start.

The trading platform gives you tools to manage risk—stop-losses, for example, which sell automatically if the price falls to a level you set. But no tool can guarantee a profit or prevent a loss. You are always responsible for your own decisions and your own money.

Why use Investfora for trading?

Investfora brings shares and ETFs together with other ways to invest your money—fixed-term deposits, business lending, and crypto. This means you can keep everything in one account and move money between different investment types. Your cash balance is one place; each investment you choose is separate and clearly shown.

The platform is straightforward. You fund it by bank transfer, money lands in your cash balance, you choose what to invest in, and nothing happens unless you instruct it. There are no hidden moves or automatic investments. Investfora is regulated in Spain by the CNMV and serves both retail and professional clients.

Trading shares and ETFs through Investfora is not different from trading anywhere else in the basics—you buy, you hold or sell, prices move, and you make or lose money. But having it alongside other investment types, with a simple interface and clear visibility of your cash and positions, makes it easier to build a sensible overall investment approach rather than chasing one thing in isolation.
