How to buy shares and ETFs on Investfora
A plain guide to trading shares and exchange-traded funds through your Investfora account, and what to consider first.
What are shares and ETFs?
A share is a small piece of ownership in a company. When you buy a share, you own a fraction of that business. If the company does well, the share price may rise. If it struggles, the price may fall.
An ETF is short for exchange-traded fund. It is a basket of shares, bonds, or other assets bundled together and traded as one thing, like a single share. Most ETFs track an index—a measurement of how a group of companies or markets is performing. For example, an ETF might hold all the shares in the top one hundred European companies.
Both shares and ETFs are traded on exchanges during market hours. Prices change constantly as people buy and sell. On Investfora, you trade through a broker's platform, which means you are buying and selling real assets on real markets, not betting on price movements.
How to set up and fund your trading account
Start by opening an Investfora account. Once you are registered and verified, you will see a dashboard with a unique bank transfer reference. Use that reference to send euros from your personal bank account. The money lands as Investfora cash, usually within one to three working days. Your first deposit must be at least EUR 250.
The cash sits in your Investfora balance until you decide to use it. Nothing is invested unless you instruct it. You control when and where every euro goes. If you want to trade shares and ETFs, you set up a separate trading account from your cash balance. Think of it as opening a drawer in your dashboard for trading activity.
Once your trading account is funded, you log into the broker's platform. This is where the actual buying and selling happens. You can use the Windows desktop application, the Android app, or the web trader that opens inside your Investfora account. All three connect to the same broker, so your positions are the same wherever you trade.
Finding and buying shares or ETFs
Search for the company or ETF you want by name or ticker symbol—a short code like AAPL for Apple or VWRL for a global ETF. The broker's platform shows you the price, recent trading activity, and charts. You can see how the price has moved over different time periods to help you understand trends. Read the information carefully.
When you are ready, you place an order. You decide how many shares or units to buy and at what price you are willing to buy them. You can place a market order, which buys immediately at the current price, or a limit order, which buys only if the price falls to a level you set.
You can hold your shares and ETFs for as long as you want. Your dashboard shows each position separately, with the current price, what you paid for it, and whether you are up or down on that holding. You can sell whenever you choose during market hours.
The costs and how they work
When you buy or sell shares or ETFs, there is a cost. The broker charges a commission or a spread—a small difference between the buying and selling price. These costs vary depending on what you are trading and which market it trades on.
Some shares and ETFs also pay dividends or distributions. This is a share of profits paid to you, usually once or several times a year. The platform tells you which ones pay, how much, and when. Dividends are not guaranteed and not every company or fund pays them.
There are no hidden fees for holding shares or ETFs. You only pay when you buy or sell. Investfora does not charge a subscription for trading shares and ETFs through the standard broker platform. If you want AI ForaBot, a paid automated trading service with a personal trading manager, the price is quoted by your trading manager and is separate.
What to think about before you start
The value of shares and ETFs can go down as well as up. You may get back less money than you put in. This is the most important thing to understand. Markets move for many reasons—company news, economic data, world events—and prices can fall sharply and quickly. Only invest money you can afford to lose without it affecting your life.
Decide what you want to achieve and how long you plan to hold. Some people buy shares or ETFs and hold them for years, betting that prices will rise over time. Others trade more actively, trying to profit from shorter-term moves. Both approaches carry risk. Longer-term investing tends to smooth out short-term ups and downs, but there is no guarantee.
Understand what you are buying. Never buy a share or ETF just because someone mentioned it or because the price is moving. Read about the company or fund, understand what it does, and think about whether you believe in it. If you do not understand something, do not invest in it.
Start small if you are new to trading. Your first deposit is EUR 250 minimum, but you do not have to use it all at once. Try buying a small amount, experience how the platform works, and learn as you go. Making small mistakes early on costs less than making large ones.
Managing your portfolio and staying in control
Your dashboard shows everything clearly. Each share or ETF you own appears as a separate line, with its current value, your entry price, and profit or loss. You can see your overall cash balance and your total trading positions at a glance. This means you always know where your money is and how it is performing.
You can sell any position at any time during market hours. If a price rises and you want to lock in a gain, sell. If a price falls and you want to cut a loss, sell. You are in complete control. You do not have to ask permission or wait for anyone.
Review your holdings regularly. Check whether the reasons you bought each share or ETF still make sense. Markets change, companies change, and so do circumstances. If your views have changed, do not be afraid to sell and move on. Holding something just because you bought it once is not a good reason to keep it.
