How to Lend Money to Businesses Through Investfora
A practical guide to understanding business lending on Investfora, how to choose loans, and what to think about before you commit your money.
What Is Business Lending?
Business lending on Investfora works like this: real businesses need to borrow money. Instead of going to a bank, they list their loan request on the platform.
You are not lending to Investfora. You are lending directly to the business, and the business is the one that pays you back. Investfora is the platform that brings you together and handles the mechanics.
Each business listing is separate. You might lend to five different businesses, or to one, or to none. You choose which loans appeal to you and how much of your cash to put into each one. Nothing is invested unless you instruct it.
The interest you receive is called a rate, and it varies from loan to loan. The business sets the rate it is willing to pay based on how risky the lender thinks the loan is. A riskier loan offers a higher rate. A safer-looking loan offers a lower rate.
What Information Do You Get About Each Loan?
Every loan listing shows you the same set of facts. The business name is there, along with what it wants to borrow the money for. The interest rate is shown clearly.
You will also see the term: how long the loan lasts, usually measured in months or years. The repayment frequency tells you when you get paid back—weekly, monthly, quarterly, or at the end.
The listing shows what secures the loan. Security means that if the business cannot pay you back, you have a claim on something valuable it owns—property, equipment, stock, or a legal right over its bank account.
You do not get a credit score on the listing. What you do get is a risk grade assigned by the platform. This grade reflects factors like the business's financial history, how long it has been trading, and what secures the loan.
How Does Your Money Actually Get Lent?
You start by transferring euros into your Investfora account by bank transfer, using the reference shown in your dashboard. The money usually lands within one to three working days. Once it lands and has been matched, it appears as your Investfora cash balance.
When you choose to lend to a business, you instruct the platform to transfer your cash into that loan. The money leaves your cash balance and goes into the loan account.
From that moment on, the business owes you money. It makes repayments according to the schedule on the listing. Each repayment arrives back into your Investfora account as cash.
The dashboard shows each loan on its own screen. You can see the original amount you lent, the interest rate, when the loan finishes, when repayments arrive, and how much you have earned so far.
What Can Go Wrong, and What Do You Need to Think About?
The most important thing to understand is this: the value of your investment can go down as well as up, and you may get back less than you put in. If the business cannot repay the loan, you may lose some or all of your money.
A business might fail because market conditions change, because the owner makes poor decisions, because a key customer leaves, or for countless other reasons. Even if the loan is secured against property or equipment, the value of that security might fall, or it might take time and money to recover it if you have to enforce your claim.
The interest rate on the listing might look attractive, but it exists because there is a genuine risk the business will not pay. Do not be tempted by a high rate into lending more than you can afford to lose.
Diversification matters. If you have a large sum to lend, spreading it across multiple loans to different businesses reduces the impact if one business fails. Putting everything into one loan is riskier because you are betting entirely on that one business succeeding.
How Do You Choose Which Loans to Lend To?
Start by reading the loan listing carefully. Understand what the business does, why it needs the money, what rate it is offering, and what secures the loan. Ask yourself whether you understand the business and whether you would be comfortable with the risk if the rate were zero.
Look at the risk grade. A loan with a lower risk grade will typically offer a lower interest rate. A loan with a higher risk grade offers more interest but carries greater risk of default.
Think about the term and repayment frequency. A loan that repays monthly gives you cash back regularly and lets you reinvest it or withdraw it. A loan that repays at the end keeps your money tied up for longer but is simpler to track.
Consider the funding level. Some loans fill quickly because many people want to lend to them. Others fill slowly. Neither is inherently better, but a loan that is still seeking funding carries a small risk that it will not fund at all—in which case your cash is returned unspent.
What Happens If You Want Your Money Back Early?
Once you have lent money to a business, that money is locked into the loan until the business repays it according to the schedule. You cannot ask for early repayment just because you have changed your mind. You have to wait for the scheduled repayment dates.
This is why the term and repayment frequency matter. If a loan runs for two years with a single repayment at the end, your money is gone for two years.
Before you lend, be clear about when you might need that money and choose loans with repayment schedules that fit. Do not lend money you might need urgently. Business lending is not a short-term place for money you think you will need soon.
As repayments arrive, they become available cash again in your account. You are then free to do what you want with them: lend again, switch to a fixed-term deposit, buy crypto, or withdraw to your bank account.
Getting Started with Business Lending
To start, you need an Investfora account. The minimum first deposit is EUR 250. Transfer euros by bank transfer using the reference from your dashboard. The money usually arrives within one to three working days and becomes your cash balance.
Once you have cash in your account, browse the business lending listings. Each one shows you all the information you need: the business, the amount, the rate, the term, the repayment frequency, the risk grade, and what secures it. Read them carefully. You are not in a hurry.
When you find a loan you want to lend to, you choose how much of your cash to commit. You might lend your entire cash balance to one loan, or split it across several. The choice is yours, and you can change your strategy with every repayment that arrives.
Remember that Investfora is a platform; it does not give advice or recommendations about which loans to choose. That decision is yours alone. It is based on your own view of the risk, your own financial situation, and your own plans for the money.
