How Money Grows Over Time: The Case for Investing
Why investing matters, how it works, and what you need to know before you start.
Why money sitting still falls behind
Cash in a savings account earns very little. If you leave money there for years, inflation—the gradual rise in the cost of living—quietly erodes what it can buy. A hundred euros today might buy what ninety euros bought five years ago. That loss happens whether you do anything or not.
Investing is one way to push back against that. When you put money into something that generates income or grows in value, your money works instead of just sitting. Over long periods, this can make a real difference to what you have.
This is not a promise. The value of investments can go down as well as up, and you may get back less than you put in. But understanding how growth happens is the first step to deciding whether investing makes sense for you.
Three ways money can grow
Income is the first way. You lend money and get paid interest, or you own something and it produces cash flow. A fixed-term deposit pays you interest every day until the term ends. Business lending pays interest on a schedule set when you lend. The money comes to you whether or not the underlying value changes.
Appreciation is the second way. An asset you own rises in price. A cryptocurrency might trade higher tomorrow. A commodity price might move up. An index or share might increase in value. You only realise this gain when you sell, but the possibility is always there.
Compounding is the third way—and the most misunderstood. When you earn income, you can reinvest that income. Next time, you earn income on both the original amount and the income you earned before. Over very long periods, even modest income can build significantly because you are earning on an ever-larger base.
What Investfora offers you
Investfora lets you choose exactly where your money goes. You transfer euros to your account, and that becomes your cash balance. Nothing is invested unless you decide to invest it. Each investment is separate, so you can see what each one is earning and how it is performing.
Today, you can invest in four different things. Fixed-term deposits give you a guaranteed rate and a known end date. Business lending gives you interest from real companies borrowing real money, graded by risk so you can see what you are taking on. Cryptocurrencies let you hold fifty different coins at live prices, tradeable in seconds.
This range matters because different kinds of growth suit different timeframes and temperaments. Someone who needs stability might lean toward deposits. Someone comfortable with volatility might choose lending or crypto. Someone trading actively uses the trading platform. You are in control of the mix.
Fixed-term deposits: certainty and simplicity
A fixed-term deposit is straightforward. You give a bank money for a set period—say, three months or two years—and the bank agrees to pay you interest at a rate set from the start. The dashboard shows you exactly what you will receive each day and what will come back on maturity. There are no surprises.
Every bank on Investfora is authorised in Europe, so your money is covered by deposit-guarantee insurance up to EUR 100,000 per person per bank. This means if the bank fails, your deposit is protected up to that limit. This is real protection backed by law, not a promise from Investfora.
Deposits are income without volatility. You will not see the value jump or fall. The trade-off is that the rate is fixed, so if interest rates rise elsewhere, you are locked in at the rate you chose.
Business lending: interest with risk
When a real business needs to borrow, it can come to Investfora and ask. You see the loan listing: the business, the amount it wants to borrow, the interest rate it is offering, how long the term is, how often it will repay, and what secures the loan.
Each listing shows a risk grade that tells you how likely repayment is. Higher risk means a higher interest rate—the business has to offer more to attract lenders. Lower risk means lower interest. You choose the balance that suits you. The point is transparency: you see the risk, and you choose what you are comfortable with.
Business lending is not guaranteed. If a business fails to repay, you may lose money. This is why the risk grade and the interest rate matter—they reflect the chance that things go wrong.
Crypto and trading: growth and volatility
Cryptocurrencies and trading offer the chance for prices to move in your favour—or against it. Crypto prices swing significantly, sometimes over days. Trading lets you bet on price movements in shares, currencies, commodities and indices. The broker's platform sits inside your account, and you trade from euros in your Investfora cash balance.
These are not income streams. You make money if you buy low and sell high. You lose money if you buy high and sell low. Both happen frequently. This is why these options suit only money you can genuinely afford to lose.
Crypto trades at live prices and you can buy fractions starting from one euro. Trading on the platform can happen within seconds. This speed is exciting but dangerous—it is easy to make fast decisions you regret. If you are new to either, take time to learn before committing significant amounts.
Before you invest: three things to think about
First, ask yourself how long you can leave the money alone. Money needed in the next few months does not belong in anything volatile. It belongs in cash or a short-term deposit. Money you will not touch for years can weather volatility because time smooths out the bumps. The longer your timeframe, the more growth you can pursue.
Second, think about what you can afford to lose. Investing means risk. Your money might not come back intact. So only invest money that would not wreck your life if it vanished. Keep an emergency fund in cash first. Then invest what is left over. This is not Investfora being cautious—it is how investing actually works.
Third, decide what you understand. Do not invest in something you cannot explain to a friend. You do not need to be an expert, but you should grasp how it works and what could go wrong. Investfora does not give advice or recommendations. You choose what to invest in. That responsibility rests with you, so choose carefully.
Getting started is simple
To open an account, you transfer euros by bank transfer using the reference shown in your dashboard. The money usually lands and appears as Investfora cash within one to three working days. Your first deposit is EUR 250. After that, you can add any amount.
Once the money is in your account, you see a dashboard with your cash balance. From there, you choose what to put it into. You can split it across multiple investments or hold it all in cash.
You are in complete control. You decide what to invest in, how much to invest, and when to move money around. Nothing happens without your instruction. That freedom is powerful, but it also means the decisions—and the outcomes—are yours to own.
