Income While You Sleep: How to Put Your Money to Work

Your money can earn money without you doing anything. Here's how it works and what to think about first.

Why your money should work for you

If you have money sitting in a current account, it is doing nothing. Banks pay almost nothing on cash these days, so the purchasing power of that money actually goes down over time as prices rise. Most people who have savings want them to do something useful. That is where investing comes in.

Investing means putting your money into something that produces income or grows in value. That income can arrive regularly, like interest paid each month. That growth can happen slowly, or it can sit and compound—each payment earning its own payment—without you lifting a finger. This is what people mean by income while you sleep.

The catch is simple: nothing is certain. The value of investments can go down as well as up. You might get back less than you put in. So before you start, you need to understand what you are putting your money into and what could go wrong.

Four ways to put money to work on Investfora

Investfora lets you choose from four different ways to invest. Each one works differently, carries different risks, and produces income in a different way. You don't have to pick one and stick with it. You can split your money between all four, or focus on just one. It is entirely your choice.

Fixed-term deposits are the simplest. You lend money to a bank for a fixed period—say six months or a year—and the bank agrees to pay you a fixed rate of interest. You know exactly what you will earn and exactly when you will get your money back.

Business lending is different. Real businesses borrow money from people like you to fund growth or operations. Each listing shows the loan amount, the interest rate offered, how long the loan lasts, what secures it, and how often you get paid back. You choose which businesses to lend to and how much to lend to each one.

Cryptocurrency lets you buy coins at live prices and swap them back to euros whenever you want. You can start with just one euro. The price of crypto moves constantly, sometimes wildly, so you could make money or lose money depending on when you buy and sell.

Trading and the future of real estate

If you want to trade actively, Investfora connects you to a trading account with a broker. From there you can trade currencies, indices, shares, ETFs and commodities on a platform that works on Windows, Android, or in your web browser.

Real estate investing is coming to Investfora but is not open yet. When it does arrive, it will let you own a share in real property. This is a longer-term investment than most of the others, but details are still being finalised.

Each investment type sits on its own screen in your dashboard. You can see exactly what you own, what it is earning each day, and what it is worth right now. Nothing is invested unless you instruct it.

How to get started: moving money in

To begin, you open an account and transfer euros by bank transfer. Your dashboard shows you a unique reference number to use. The money usually arrives as Investfora cash within one to three working days. The first deposit must be at least EUR 250. After that, you can deposit any amount you like.

Your cash balance sits there until you decide what to do with it. You might put some into a fixed-term deposit, some into a loan to a business you like the look of, a small amount into crypto, or leave some as cash. You are in complete control.

Everything you own is shown separately on the dashboard. You can see the interest being paid on your deposits, the repayment schedule on your loans, the live price of any crypto you hold, and the value of any trades you have open. There are no surprises and no hidden charges.

What to think about before you invest

Before you put money in, be honest about why you are investing. Do you want safe, predictable income? Then fixed-term deposits or business lending with a low risk grade might suit you. Do you want to try to grow your money faster?

Next, think about how much you can afford to lose. This is crucial. If you invest money you actually need to live on, you will panic if the value drops. The principle is simple: only invest money you can genuinely afford to lose. This is especially true for crypto and trading, where losses can be sudden and large.

Understand what you are investing in. Read the details on each listing. For a business loan, what does the company do? What secures the loan if things go wrong? For a crypto coin, what is it used for and how volatile has it been?

Finally, think about diversification. Putting all your money into one thing is risky. Spreading it across different types of investment and different individual investments—different businesses, different coins, different deposits—reduces the impact if one thing goes wrong. This is a principle that applies to all investing.

Why Investfora makes this easier

Investing used to require a broker, or a financial adviser, or a lot of research and knowledge. Investfora strips this down to the essentials. You move your money in. You see exactly what you can invest in, with all the information you need to decide. You choose what to put it into.

Because you hold cash in your Investfora balance, you don't need separate bank accounts or trading accounts for each thing you invest in. You fund once and then allocate. You can move money between different investments easily. You can add to an investment or withdraw from it without the hassle of multiple accounts.

Investfora is authorised and supervised by the CNMV in Spain. This means there are rules about what can and cannot be offered, and independent oversight of how the platform is run. It gives you a clear path to your money and to your rights if something goes wrong.

The honest truth about earning money on your money

Income while you sleep sounds magical. In reality, it is simpler and more modest than that. You put money into something. That something earns money. That money comes back to you or is reinvested. Over time, if you keep doing this, your money grows. But it grows slowly unless you are very lucky or you take big risks.

There is no magic. There is no secret. There is just the basic economics of lending money or owning assets and receiving income or growth in return. Investfora makes it easy to access, but it does not change the fundamental truth: the return you get depends on what you invest in, and every investment carries risk.

If you are comfortable with that, and if you have money you do not need immediately and can afford to lose, then putting it to work makes sense. Open an account, deposit EUR 250, and try it. You can start small and learn as you go. That is what most people do.
